Changing Diapers Review (with a giveaway)

Modern Cloth Diapers Made Easy - Why Join The Cloth Diapering Movement? • Baby loves a soft, fluffy butt. • You save big bucks and the planet. • Eco-friendly cloth diapers are fashionable too. • Yes, cloth diapering is fun for moms (and dads).
When I heard there was going to be a book on modern cloth diapering, I was thrilled! Sure, the Internet is filled saturated with information.. but there is just too much of it. There are hundreds, maybe thousands, of websites about cloth diapering. How do I know which one use? Why does site have different information than that site? Who should I listen to? It can become VERY overwhelming. I know it did for me. We made the choice to switch to cloth when Brexton was about 6 months old, and I got really flustered trying to figure everything out. I started with the forums on (which I still love) and clicked on some links there. Just clicking on 4 different links was enough to overwhelm me. Wait- there are how many different systems to cloth diaper with? What does this one do? Which ones should I use? Pockets, AIOs, and fitteds, oh my! I eventually just picked a random store and ordered things that sounded familiar. It worked out for me, but there we're times I thought "it shouldn't be this hard, I give up". I wish Kelly Wels would have written this book before June 2010, then maybe I could have found all of the information I needed in one place and saved myself a few gray hairs.

So who is this "Kelly Wels" and why should we trust her? I've heard Kelly's name mentioned many times before and I actually made a purchase from a store she previously owned ( once because they we're having a "spend x amount of dollars and get a free diaper" promotion. In addition to founding Kelly's Closet, Kelly also founded and owned She later sold both of these stores to spend more time advocating cloth diapering. Kelly has also documented her experience with cloth at and her personal page She has been a cloth diaper advocate for about 10 years now. In addition  to all of her professional experience she is also a Mom. She has been where we are, trying to decipher through all of the information.. and cloth diapering her own children. She has experience, lots of it!

Let's talk a little bit more about the book now. It is really convenient to have all of your cloth diapering facts in one place, as opposed to googling and coming up with pages and pages of sites to read through.

Changing Diapers includes information on:
Reasons to cloth diaper
Statistics (including how much money you could save!)
A comparison of the types of diapers and how to use them
Diaper accessories, extras, and fabrics
A list of things you will need to cloth diaper and how to get started
Newborn to toddler cloth diapering information
How to cloth cloth diaper multiples
Dads and cloth diapers
Cloth diapering resources
 Cloth diaper brands
and MORE

The last chapter of the book includes some handy checklists too. It has a list of things to pack for the diaper bag, a checklist of what you need to cloth diaper, a chart to keep track of your stash, a place to jot down your favorite stores, and some blank pages to take notes.

Some other things the book includes that I thought we're neat we're pictures and quotes! There we're pictures of real babies wearing cloth diapers and little drawings in the chapters to show what they we're talking about. Pictures make any book more fun! There we're also quotes from real cloth diapering parents about why they cloth diaper and how they feel about cloth diapering. One that stood out to me was:
"I like that my kids' poop won't be preserved for 500 years in a landfill. That's not a legacy I think they would like!"
It made me giggle.

If you are a new cloth diapering mom who is overwhelmed by all of the information available to you, buy this book, or if you know a mama who is interested in cloth diapering- SUGGEST THIS BOOK! It doesn't have to be as hard for you as it was for me.
